During these tough times of isolation we recognise that the vast majority of dog owners in our community are responsible, we are also fully aware that a small minority are not; there has been reports to Churt Parish Council of excessive amounts of dog’s mess around our village.
Dog owners who don’t pick up after their pooch could risk a fine after Waverley Borough Council’s Full Council approved a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) to combat the foul issue.
The PSPO, which bans dog fouling across the entire borough, will come into effect from 1 January 2019. It means dog owners and dog walkers will need to clean up their dog’s mess and dispose of it appropriately immediately. The order also requires the person walking the dog to have the means to 'pick up', such as dog bags, with them.
Offenders who fail to clear up after their dogs will be issued a Fixed Penalty Notice for a fine of up to £100. Failure to pay this may lead to prosecution and a fine of up to £1,000.
